New York LaGuardia (LGA) Airport Transportation Information

New Yor Car Service AirportEach airport around the world is unique in its own way and LaGuardia is no different. Airports are laid out differently with a variety of different terminals offering service to various airlines.  Along with the design difference each airport also has a different set of transportation options and procedures.  If you are not familiar with an airport it can be uncomfortable finding your way around or arranging transportation for yourself or a colleague.  The following will explain the different things you may need to know about LaGuardia, LGA Airport transportation and the procedures in place for chauffeured transportation options.  Hopefully with this information available to you, your next visit to LaGuardia will be an easy and enjoyable one.

Chauffeur Meeting Location

The standard place to meet your chauffeur is in the baggage claim area, however; with the large construction project currently taking place this may change depending on your arrival flight.  Please check your confirmation for detailed meeting instructions.  If your arrival terminal is not currently affected by the construction, the chauffeur will be waiting for you with a sign in baggage claim.  Once you meet your chauffeur her or she will help you collect your luggage and then escort you to the vehicle.  The airport authority also allows curbside pickups outside the baggage claim area if you prefer that option.  This option is available on request and the vehicle may not be able to sit at the curb so it is helpful to provide the transportation company with a cell phone number to help you get in touch with your chauffeur.

Construction

The Port Authority of New York & New Jersey announced the plans to build a new main terminal at the airport to replace the old main terminal.  The $2.4 billion project will be done in phases and will include upgrades to the airport to lay the infrastructure for the new terminal building.  Currently the construction is taking place on the parking garage outside of the Delta terminals.  Delta is also finishing up construction on combining two terminals for their use. The overall project to replace the main terminal has not started yet but is expected to be completed by 2021 based on current estimates. With the construction on the parking lot near the Delta terminals we have experienced some delays in getting chauffeurs into the baggage claim but rest assured if this does affect you we will let you know in advance.

Terminals and Airlines

The airport has 4 main terminals labeled A through D, however; Delta has built a bridge between terminals C & D to connect them as they operate flights out of both terminals.  For information on which airlines fly out of which terminals follow the link to the airport authority site.  If you are at the airport for a connect and need to switch terminals the airport does have a shuttle running every 10-15 between terminals.  It is also worth noting that Delta on occasion switches terminal last minute so make note of the correct terminal and do not rely on the airlines original plan.

Location

The airport is located in the borough of Queens, New York City.  The airport is 8 miles from midtown Manhattan and is the closest airport of the three major airports in the area (LaGuardia Airport, John F. Kennedy International Airport, Newark International Airport).  While the distance is not that great when traveling to or from the airport remember this is New York and the traffic can be very heavy at times.  As your car service provider to suggest a pick up time if you are unsure of the travel time at a certain time of day.

Overall the New York LaGuardia (LGA) airport is not a difficult place to navigate and as with any airport they have plenty of signs directing visitors.  The airport may appear dated in spots but they are working to correct this.  While construction is going on in the various phases over the next decade, expect some delays and some travel inconveniences but the end result will be worth it and LGA airport tranportation will get easier.  Enjoy your trip to New York and don’t forgot to stop and see some of the great sights the city has to offer.
